I applied for a Chase Freedom card with the promise of a $200 bonus and 0% APR. Why did I not receive the promised bonus, and why did I have to pay a $50 annual fee?

It's always better to double-check the terms and conditions before applying. As far as I know, that $200 bonus usually requires meeting a spending minimum within the first few months, and there are no annual fees.

It is possible that you may have selected some other service for $50. It's better to have a word with Chase customer service and clarify your doubts.

You may have accidentally applied for the wrong Chase card. The Freedom cards usually have no annual fee and offer a $200 bonus when you meet the spending requirement. Check your approval email, and consider calling Chase to confirm which card you received.

@Mark Yes, you are correct. I just realized I applied for the wrong Chase card. I plan to first examine my approval email along with the terms of the bonus. However, can I simply contact Chase to make the switch? I'm looking for a solution before this is finalized, as a no-fee Freedom card could be a better long-term option than a high-fee card.

@Lizaa In a shifting market, your credit card strategy is key. If you're second-guessing a Chase card, call them immediately to request a switch to a no-fee version. While the "12-month rule" usually applies, reps may be flexible before activation. Just be sure to confirm if your sign-up bonus still applies before finalizing any changes.

@Mark But is it really worth giving up premium travel perks and quicker rewards just to avoid an annual fee? If you can easily pay that cost each month, are you missing out on more value later just for a small savings now?
