What is the process of claiming life insurance?

After my mother passed away, I discovered that she had a life policy with Pacific Life, but my father was named as a beneficiary. He passed away 3 years ago. I called Pacific Life, and they told me that they would send me a letter with a form. But I didn't receive any letter or form from them.My mother passed away suddenly, with no will. So I was wondering if anyone knew what the procedure was so I could prepare myself for the claim process.
